About The Church
Kinson Methodist Church, in Bournemouth dates back to the 1840s when Methodism was first present in Kinson and the surrounding area. By the early 1850s, cottages and a thatched chapel was constructed which provided a space for worship.
In July 1892, a meeting was took place at the Oddfellows Hall, accompanied by the Kinson Brass Band, where the decision was made to establish a Methodist Society and build a chapel in Kinson. Foundation stones for the new chapel were laid in October 1895, and the building opened in the following year. This chapel was designed in red brick and slate, the interior was paneled and beamed with dark wood.
The chapel underwent restoration and refurbishment in 1936, with a vestry extension added in 1941. In 1949, a hall was erected behind the chapel to accommodate groups and activities which took place. Due to the need for a larger space, plans were set in motion to replace the chapel. Foundation stones for the new church were laid in 1956, and the building was completed and opened in 1957. The adjoining hall was replaced with a new structure and concourse in 2006 to meet the increasing demands of various groups.
