Geocache Description:

The Oro-Medonte Rail Trail in Ontario is a significant part of the area's history, stemming from a railway line that connected Barrie and Orillia. This line, part of the first steam railway in Upper Canada, provided service and passenger trains in the late 1800s. Due to declining service, the railway was eventually abandoned in 1996 and transformed into the current trail.

The trail offers a glimpse into the history of the area, with historical signs and markings along the route.

Along this popular recreational trail, you can still find remnants of the once important railway and many Geocaches.

This cache was original placed by an avid Geocaching enthusiast Peter who passed away too young. The caches he placed gradually became in need of maintenance and were disabled.

Recently I collected three of these caches and will try to create new ones while recycling what I can from the old caches.

The ice storm in the late winter of 2025 has really changed the difficulty and landscape along the rail trail. I have checked the area and made sure the cache locations can be accessed and not blocked by fallen trees.

This cache is large and great for larger tradables.

Enjoy your adventure
