Saunders State Trail is an 8 mile rail trail in Wisconsin connecting the Gandy Dancer Trail into Minnesota and is maintained and operated by the Minnesota DNR as an ATV trail known as the Soo Line South ATV Trail [exit DNR].
The trail is ballast and not groomed or surfaced and may be rough or soft in many sections. Cachers must share the trail with motorized vehicles. This is the farthest north State Trail.
All-terrain vehicles (ATVs) are allowed on the Saunders State Trail year-round. Operators must follow all Wisconsin ATV operation laws. The trail also connects to the Gandy Dancer State Trail and other Douglas County ATV and snowmobile routes.
The entire trail is open to walking and bicycling, though road bicycles are not recommended. The trail may be rough or soft in many sections, if bicycling a fat tire bike should be used.
