Geocache Description:

This walk along the Way & Arun Canal is only around 2 miles, so is enjoyable for all ages, young or old! It can be very muddy through winter months and after it has rained, so unless it has been hot for the week I would advise wearing wellies. This is a common walk that I and my family will do on Christmas Eve, it is an easy going, bitesize walk, with a pub at the end of it.

About this section of the Wey and Arun Canal:

Up as far as Newbridge, the Arun navigation opened in 1787, bringing goods from Arundel and the coast up to the wharves at Newbridge for trans-shipment into horse drawn carts to go up to Billinghurst and the surrounding villages, like coal and groceries and other essential goods. North from Newbridge, the Wey and Arun Junction Canal opened in 1816 to link the Arun Navigation with the River Wey south of Guidlford, so providing an inlland waterway route from the south coast to the capital, opening up towns and villages along its line in the process.
