Im Herzen von Goslar, dort wo Geschichte und Gegenwart ineinanderfließen, steht ein ungewöhnliches Symbol: ein goldener Hydrant. Auf den ersten Blick wirkt er wie ein verspieltes Detail im Stadtbild – doch wer genauer hinsieht, erkennt, dass er mehr erzählt als nur eine Geschichte.
Sein goldenes Leuchten erinnert an die Kaiserzeit Goslars, an Glanz, Macht und die Bedeutung der Stadt im Heiligen Römischen Reich. Es ist ein Echo vergangener Tage, in denen Kronen funkelten und Adler über die Geschicke wachten. Das Gold steht dabei nicht nur für Reichtum, sondern auch für das Herz – das (H)Erz – der Stadt, das bis heute in ihren Gassen schlägt.
Doch der Hydrant ist nicht nur golden, sondern auch aus Metall – ein stiller Verweis auf das Erz des Rammelsbergs. Jahrhunderte lang wurde hier geschürft, gearbeitet, geschwitzt. Der Reichtum der Region kam aus der Tiefe, aus dem dunklen Inneren der Erde, und formte Goslar zu dem, was es heute ist.
Und schließlich ist da das Wasser. Unsichtbar, aber essenziell. Es steht für die Lebensadern der Stadt: die ausgeklügelte Wasserversorgung des Oberharzer Wasserregals und die Gose, die sich durch Goslar schlängelt. Wasser, das antreibt, versorgt und verbindet – damals wie heute.
So vereint der goldene Hydrant all diese Elemente unserer GeoTour: Irgendwas mit Kaiser, (H)Erz und die stille Kraft des Wassers. Und vielleicht wacht er, ganz im Sinne des Mottos, auch ein wenig wie ein Adler über das Herz der Stadt – unscheinbar, aber voller Bedeutung.
Über die GeoTour
Goslar vereint auf besondere Weise Geschichte, Landschaft und Technik. Die historische Altstadt, das Erzbergwerk Rammelsberg und das Oberharzer Wasserregal bilden gemeinsam ein einzigartiges Ensemble, das als UNESCO-Weltkulturerbe ausgezeichnet wurde und bis heute die Entwicklung der Region sichtbar macht.
Diese Geotour ist aus der Geocaching-Community heraus entstanden. Sie wurde von engagierten Cacherinnen und Cachern entworfen, entwickelt und getragen – mit dem Ziel, die Besonderheiten Goslars auf abwechslungsreiche Weise erlebbar zu machen und bekannte wie weniger bekannte Orte miteinander zu verbinden. Und unser Maskottchen Adelhard wird dich dabei begleiten.
Goslar ist immer eine Reise Wert, weil hier Treffen sich mehrere.

Welcome to Goslar at the beautiful edge of the Harz. We’re glad you are visiting our GeoTour.
(this Cache) Adelhard in the heart of the city of Goslar
In the heart of Goslar, where past and present flow into one another, stands an unusual symbol: a golden hydrant. At first glance, it appears to be a playful detail in the cityscape – but those who take a closer look will realize that it tells more than just a single story.
Its golden glow recalls Goslar’s imperial era, its splendor, power, and importance within the Holy Roman Empire. It echoes times when crowns sparkled and eagles watched over the course of events. The gold represents not only wealth, but also the heart – the (h)erz – of the city, which still beats through its streets today.
Yet the hydrant is not only golden; it is also made of metal – a quiet reference to the ore of the Rammelsberg. For centuries, people mined, worked, and toiled here. The region’s wealth came from deep below, from the dark interior of the earth, shaping Goslar into what it is today.
And finally, there is water. Invisible, yet essential. It represents the lifeblood of the city: the sophisticated water management system of the Upper Harz Water Regale and the Gose, which winds its way through Goslar. Water that drives, supplies, and connects—then as now.
Thus, the golden hydrant brings together all these elements of our GeoTour: something of emperors, (h)erz, and the quiet power of water. And perhaps, true to the motto, it also watches over the heart of the city like an eagle – unassuming, yet full of meaning.
About the GeoTour
Goslar uniquely combines history, landscape, and technology. The historic old town, the Rammelsberg ore mine, and the Upper Harz Water Management System together form a unique ensemble, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and still reveal the development of the region today.
This GeoTour originated from the geocaching community. It was designed, developed, and supported by dedicated cachers, with the goal of showcasing Goslar’s special features in an engaging way and connecting both well-known and lesser-known locations. And our mascot Adelhard will accompany you along the way.
Goslar is always worth a visit, because it is a place where many paths meet.
