Canal Bicentennial Geocaching Brochure

Caches is this series will be regular size food storage containers, and the hides are not supposed to be tricky... but this one is a little more challenging for beginner cachers.   We are encouraging new cachers to start caching and experienced cachers to learn more about and visit the Erie Canal in Wayne County. Message the cache owner for help if needed.

Anyone who logs this find, or another one in this series, by August 15th will be eligible for a grand prize relating to the Erie Canal. Other smaller prizes are also being talked about being given the week of the Wayne County Fair, August 4th - 10th, 2025.  Winners will be randomly drawn from "found it" logs submitted online or through the geocaching app and verified being in the log book.  Winners will be contacted through Geocaching.com messaging.

Most of the cache containers in this series are plastic Rubbermaid food storage containers with a red lid.  But not this one... this is a smaller container with a smaller log book.  Pictures of a canal map and the logo for the celebration can be seen through the sides of the container. There are pencils and a small spiral log book in the cache. Please return the cache exactly where/how you found so other visitors can have the same experience!  Read the hint if you like, and message the cache owner if you need help!

Some information about what Lauraville Landing is all about!

This trail offers a campground to the west of the parking lot by following the trail under the Rt. 414 bridge and walking a quarter mile.  At the park there is a playground, picnic pavilion, and boat launch for kayaks and canoes.  Lauraville Landing Trail was the old West Shore Railroad and is now a stone dust trail through a mix of hardwoods.  This trail will eventually cross a bridge over the Erie Canal at 1.75 miles and will be part of the Erie Canal trail system which crosses New York State.

When the trail is finished further east of the old railroad bridge, there will be views of the Erie Canal and of Clinton’s Ditch.  One more note: the old railroad bridge is currently the “Low Bridge” in this section of the Erie Canal.
