Geocache Description:

Archeological Site

In 2006, during a maintenance project by the Harris County Flood Control District to reinforce Cypress Creek near Meyer Park, artifacts were discovered along the banks. This discovery led to a cultural resources investigation and subsequent archaeological digs at the site, which is referred to as the Cypress Creek Archeological Site.

Native American artifacts, primarily tools and pottery, were found during these investigations. The archaeological site is approximately 6.8 acres, and a total of 2,457 artifacts were discovered there.

The investigation was required by state and federal law due to the discovery of artifacts during the maintenance project. This archaeological site provides valuable insights into the history and culture of Native American populations in Southeast Texas.

Fishing

The lake at Meyer Park is stocked each year with rainbow trout by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and also includes bluegill, channel catfish, and largemouth bass. Catch-and-release fishing is motivated.

CITO

I took my dog Raider for a run and we discovered this lake/pond.  It is beautiful there and we ran on the path that loops around the pond.  We saw many many many turtles, some ducks, squirrels, a bunny, and some fish jumping.   We also saw some trash along the banks and the trail so we (well....me) thought "CITO!"

So join us as we help clean up Meyer Park.  There are plenty of trash recepticals around plus I will bring garbage bags  (I may bring our pool skimmer to retrieve any trash in the pond).   I have added waypoints for parking - there are two parking lots nearby (one by a skate park in case cachers want to bring a skateboard).  It is a pretty short walk from the parking lot(s) to the pond...but it is a walk (I think maybe 1.5 miles round trip including the loop around the pond.....but geocachers are free to skip the pond loop and do CITO at the path and banks).  The path is good for walking, running, and cycling.

There are also picnic tables nearby should anyone desire to have a meal break.
