On the drive home one afternoon during the first week of my youngest daughter's freshman year of high school, she asked if we could stop and get coffee. I directed my car to the nearest coffee shop and we went through the drive-thru, procurring our coffee.
As we drove home, coffee cups in hand, I thought about how quickly these high school years would pass. I realized I wanted to create moments she'd remember—not grand gestures, but little rituals that would make these years feel special. Stopping for coffee once a week seemed like a small thing, but one that she would enjoy, and thus, Coffee Monday was born. This tradition continued for the next four years, and it one that both she and I think of fondly. She's in college now, and while Coffee Monday isn't a weekly thing for us anymore, we still occasionally stop for coffee when she's in the car.
If you have a small tradition you share with your kids or loved ones, I’d love for you to include it in your log. Sometimes it’s the smallest moments that leave the biggest impressions.
