The Summer solstice in the Northern Hemisphere occurs when the Earth's North pole has its maximum tilt toward the sun. This is the day with the longest period of daylight hours and the shortest night of the year. In the Northern hemisphere the solstice occurs in June( on the 20, 21, or 22) It is significant in many cultures and has been marked with festivals and rituals throughout time. Sadly, after the Summer solstice, our daylight hours continue to get shorter every day until we reach the Winter Solstice in December. It is still one of my favorite days of the year.
