The cache is NOT at the posted coordinates, but it is nearby- the final container is in Butkus Pond Preserve, placed with permission.
I got the idea for this puzzle when looking at the street parking for this preserve. As a new CT resident, I was curious if the Beatles ever performed in Connecticut. They did not- in fact, in August 1966 several Connecticut radio stations even banned their music following some comments from John Lennon comparing the band's popularity to that of a major religious figure. Stations from Stamford to Manchester participated in the ban, though some popular stations like WPOP in Hartford continued to play the music regardless of the controversy. The ban was lifted as the controversy died down.
What album did Penny Lane debut (original UK debut, not US debut)? The answer will give you the coorect final coordinates in the preserve:
- Help! - N 41° 10.423′ W 73° 15.400′
- Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band - N 41° 10.470′ W 73° 15.436′
- Abbey Road - N 41° 10.457′ W 73° 15.419′
- It was a single - N 41° 10.485′ W 73° 15.434′
Caching Notes:
- Please search during daylight hours.
- There is technically trail access to the preserve from Penny Lane near the posted coordinates, but it's pretty overgrown at the time of publication- I recommend accessing the preserve from Centerbrook Road.
- Cache is near the trail, no need to veer more than a few steps off the trail.
- Please don't disturb any flora or fauna, CITO as you go!
