Geocache Description:

I had my first trip to Daufuskie with friends in October 2021.  I didn't get past the restaurant area near the marina, even though I knew there was a cache on the island!  I was back in 23 and several times in 2024 when we joined a boat club and could come without the aid of friends! All those times, I never ventured out for the cache because it was a 2-mile walk, and the others I was with weren't geocachers and weren't interested in renting a cart on those trips. - The Scrap Iron drink kept calling their name!

It wasn't until March 2025 that I ventured further than the restaurant area and explored the island.  Thanks to Zippy Finn placing an Adventure Lab out here, it finally convinced my hubby and me to explore the island!  Now, I can't believe I waited so long!  I came equipped to hide a cache and did, but didn't get around to publishing it until now.  I have been back several times and checked on the cache, and it is snug in its place, 3 months later.  Now it is time!

I hope this gets some of you further than the restaurant and general store at the marina.  It's just a couple of tenths from there, and there is a trail and then a paved road to walk to it!  You don't need a cart to get this one - thank hubby for that because I was going to start by hiding one further away. I'll see how much traffic this gets this summer and then will look into hiding more.  There is another cacher that lives on the island, and she keeps saying she is going to hide one, but hasn't. Maybe this will spur her on!

There are several restaurants, shops, a winery, a pub, and a rum distillery on the island.  There are a couple of historic buildings that you can tour.  I highly recommend you spend some time exploring.  There is even a public beach on the other side of the island.

Now, this gets a T5 because the only way to get to the island is a ferry or personal watercraft!  Once on the island, this is probably a T2. There is not much room for additional items besides the log.

You DO NOT need a cart to reach this cache once on the island.

Anyway, come out and explore Daufuskie Island.  There are currently 2 caches (including this one) and an Adventure Lab!  It's a fun day.

I took this picture on one of our trips out to the island.  We were on our way home, and I turned around to look for our friends, and I noticed the Goodyear Blimp.  It was Easter Sunday, and the blimp was above the 2025 RBC Heritage Open Golf Tournament.
