Geocache Description:

Laganas Beach

This is a simple traditional cache for those who visit this interesting place.

The main advantage of Laganas is a 3 km long sandy beach with plenty of refreshments, taverns and a very varied range of water activities and sports. The beach is connected to the neighboring smaller resort of Kalamaki, creating the longest over 5 km long continuous beach of sand in Zakynthos. The entrance to the water is very gentle and safe, the waves are small, so the beach is also suitable for families with small children during the day. Towards Kalamaki there are fewer people and houses and you will find yourself on a very nice natural beach with sand dunes.

Laganas Bay is also one of the Mediterranean reproductive habitats of the sea turtle Caretta caretta, which is one of the largest sea turtles in the world. It measures over 1 meter and can weigh up to 150 kilograms. These magnificent creatures come to the south coast of Zakynthos every summer, especially to the Laganas Bay area, to lay their eggs.

Please be considerate of these beautiful creatures and do not disturb them in your homeland.
