YOU CAN’T GET THERE FROM HERE!
Units of measure needed for this letterbox:
Step – The unit of length from the heel of one foot to the heel of the OTHER foot at a normal walking rate.
Pace – The unit of length from the heel of one foot to the heel of the SAME foot at a normal walking rate (same as two steps).
Since the length of a step and pace will vary with the height of a person, here are the heights of the people that measured the distances. You can use these to help with any adjustments.
Robin Hood - 6 feet 0 inches
Maid Marian - 5 feet 3 inches
As will all letterbox caches there is a rubber stamp that stays in the cache.
Do not remove the stamp.
At the “Starting Point” will be a gate for a fire road at the edge of the woods. From here follow the fire road into the woods for 525 steps (per Robin Hood) or 550 steps (per Maid Marian).
At this point there will be a smaller, but well-worn, trail on your left heading northeast. If you passed this trail or have not arrived there yet, move to the intersection of the fire road and the smaller trail. You can use your count of steps to this intersection and compare it to the Robin Hood count to adjust as you continue.
Continue along the fire road for another 330 Robin Hood size steps.
You should now see a large dead tree on your right (see gallery picture) with a lot of vines growing on one side. There is a small, deer trail sized opening on the right side of the dead tree as you are looking from the fire road.
Follow this small trail for 12 paces (not steps) and stop. Look to your right, westerly, and the view should look like the "Right View" image in the gallery. Pay attention to the red ribbon tied to a bush.
About 30 feet from the trail is another red ribbon. Stand by the ribbon next to the trail and look across the ribbon 30 feet away and notice two small trees about a foot apart in the distance.
Now walk in line with the ribbons, 65 feet, to the two small trees and the cache. There is a image in the gallery of where the cache is hiding.
