Geocache Description:

On the 22nd June 2025 Tarvin Brownies will have been going strong for Fifty years.

To celebrate we have set up a geocaching trail. We have made it as easy as possible so that the Brownies and Guides will be able to find the caches without too much trouble. There will be a number of straight forward jigidis, easy quizzes and in some cases we will just tell you where the cache is. None of the caches are at the posted co-ordinates.

Most of the caches are on quiet roads or paths, although there is a busier section of road in places

When they were first organised in1914 to complete the range of age groups for girls in Scouting, the girls were called Rosebuds. They were renamed by Lord Baden-Powell after they complained that they did not like their name. Their name comes from the story "The Brownies" by Juliana Horatia Ewing, written in 1870. In the story, two children, Tommy and Betty, learn that children can be helpful brownies instead of being lazy boggarts.

In 1918, Robert's wife, Lady Olave Baden-Powell, took over the responsibility for the Girl Guides and thus for Brownies. She became the first Chief Guide for the UK. To date there have been 19 Chief Guides - the current one being Tracy Foster
