Join me at Schodack Island State Park from 5-7pm to chill and chat. On Friday evenings the park has a concession stand run by a local volunteer fire department. I will nab picnic tables in the shade as a base for the group (or tables under the large pavilion if it looks like rain) and provide water and cookies. You may want to bring a lawn chair and any adult beverages that you desire. The concession stand offers things such as burgers, hotdogs, chicken fingers, sausage & peppers, meatballs, fries, fried dough, soda, and water for nominal fees, but you are also welcome to bring your own dinner or snacks.
In 2019, we had the first Chillin' by the Hudson event. In 2021, we included some Fibonacci sequence fun. In 2022, we predicted what Geocaching would be like in 2030. In 2023, we outlasted a monsoon. In 2024, we were again under the pavilion because of a brief downpour. In order to give out some prizes (ie. clean out my geojunk bin,) I think we'll try a Geopardy game to go with the theme of the Sara-Cap hides in SISP this year.
RAIN DATE (in the event of heavy rain or electrical storm): TBD, same time, same place, and a Friday, if possible. If you look out the window or check the Castleton-on-Hudson radar and believe the weather is even too miserable for Signal, then check for an announcement of the postponement. I will try to announce in time for those with a bit longer drive. (In 2023, I didn't have enough notice based on the forecast and we managed to have a blast despite the torrential downpour.) Otherwise, the event will be held as scheduled whether perfect blue skies, hot scorching sun, overcast skies, or scattered showers/a bit of drizzle going through the area. If there is a bit of drizzle, we can nab a table under the tent slightly East of the posted coordinates.
