On the 22nd June 2025 Tarvin Brownies will have been going strong for Fifty years.
To celebrate we have set up a geocaching trail. We have made it as easy as possible so that the Brownies and Guides will be able to find the caches without too much trouble. There will be a number of straight forward jigidis, easy quizzes and in some cases we will just tell you where the cache is. None of the caches are at the posted co-ordinates
Most of the caches are on quiet roads or paths, although there is a busier section of road in places.
Although early Brownies did get the chance to get many interest badges, many didn't get chance to do many as they spent most of their time trying to get Brownie wings so that they could 'fly up' to guides. To get these they had to fulfil a number of challenges (tying knots or a semaphore message), make crafts and other activities. All had to be signed off by a visiting leader all on the same day. If they failed one part then the whole thing had to be done again. It seems quite harsh in todays standards.
Early Tarvin Brownies would have had it easier and would probably been able to amass a number of interest badges badges - these could include Agility (a girl balancing),Collector (a magnifying glass), Discoverer (a rabbit), House Orderly (a broom) or a Pathfinder (an arrow). All badges were brown and triangular. They had Girl Guides embroidered in yellow along with the picture representing the interest.
They would have been given the Brownie Guide Handbook with details of how to get all these badges. It also included the storie of the Brownies and much more info on how to be a good Brownie
.
