A área restrita tem acesso através do portão verde que se avista para SE das coordenadas publicadas, monumento nacional incluso no vasto património arqueológico português.
You are near the entrance to this archaeological site located at Herdade da Sala.
The restricted area is accessible through the green gate that can be seen to the southeast of the published coordinates, which includes a national monument as part of the vast Portuguese archaeological heritage.
A gruta encaixa-se no interior de uma falésia, relativamente escarpada, de calcários duros.
Foi descoberta em 1963 e escavada por Manuel Farinha dos Santos até 1980.

Os primeiros vestígios arqueológicos encontrados datam de há 50.000 anos, do período paleolítico médio, a arte rupestre e a necrópole do paleolítico superior e do neolítico final, respetivamente.
The cave is set within a relatively steep limestone cliff. It was discovered in 1963 and excavated by Manuel Farinha dos Santos until 1980. From 1989, it was visited by an international team and began to be managed by the services of IPPAR and later by IGESPAR. Wikipedia info
The earliest archaeological traces found date back 50,000 years, from the Middle Paleolithic period, the rock art and the necropolis from the Upper Paleolithic and final Neolithic periods, respectively.
