Geocache Description:

Apart from geocaching, which is a new hobby for me, I have been pursuing other hobbies and pastimes for many years. I have decided to create a very short set of mystery caches to recognize these hobbies. These caches run as an addition to the two heritage trail Adventure Lab sets, the dummy co-ordinates will take you to areas that are used as canvases by local artists to produce some artwork. The actual pictures sometimes change.

I can't really remember how or when I started to get interested in trains. With the aircraft I can pinpoint a specific date when I became a "spotter" (3rd September 1978) With trains I sort of drifted into it at about the same time.

I have spent many hours on train platforms logging train numbers, I much prefer freight trains to passenger movements.

In 1987, whilst we still had our under 23's railcards, myself and a friend decided to embark on a week long adventure around the country on an all lines rail rover (a grey ticket if anyone is interested) It cost about £250 for any train, anywhere in the country for seven days.

So we met at London Paddington on the Sunday lunchtime and off we went, this was our route

London Paddington-Bristol Temple Meads

Bristol Temple meads-Cardiff Central

Cardiff Central-Crewe

Crewe-Carlisle

Carlise-Glasgow

Glasgow-Inverness

Inverness-Glasgow

Glasgow-London Euston

Every night was spent either spotting on a platform or travelling on a train, not one night in a sleeping establishment was had.

Not so many mad trips nowadays, age (and the need for sleep) have caught up with me.

There are apps now that alert me to unusual movements scheduled to go through my local stations.
