If you grew up in the late 1980s or early 1990s, you probably remember the iconic phrase "You've Got Mail." This phrase was popularized by AOL (America Online) and voiced by Elwood Edwards.
In 1989, Edwards, a voiceover actor, recorded the phrase for AOL after his wife, Karen, learned the company needed a voice actor. He recorded several phrases, including "You've Got Mail," "Hello," "Goodbye," and "File's Done," in his living room using a cassette deck, for just $200.
The phrase quickly became synonymous with AOL, signifying the arrival of new email. Its popularity soared to the point that, in 1998, it became a central element of the romantic comedy “You’ve Got Mail.”
This is our rendition of this era, and we hope you enjoy the ride.
