Geocache Description:

Drive up, park and soak up the most popular lookout in the Highland Lakes. Climb up to 1094' elevation to see the Packsaddle Mountain valley vista.

This cache is boulder bound. Read the historical marker and hike to your right (down the road a bit) and if boulder climbing is part of your skill set...you will find this easily. Take your time at the top - the joy is in the view! And don't forget to turn around, the geology is fascinating. Below is the confluence of the Llano and Colorado rivers. Kingsland is on your right and Granite Shoals to your left, but straight ahead is the granddaddy of them all, Packsaddle Mountain. Enjoy!

The parking area at the Lookout is accessible for ALL and has a terrific view. However, the hike and climb to the cache location is alongside a busy, fast moving highway - please use good judgment and take care.

Cactus, cactus everywhere! Long pants will protect your legs and gloves will save your hands.

ROCKS ARE LOOSE! - be aware of your hand and footholds.

Look for snakes and critters. BE CAREFUL!

The climb and descent are not easy. BE CAREFUL!

If you bring smaller children for the view, please bring another adult or big kid to stay with them at the parking area. You will be out of sight of the parking area on the approach and climb.

The view is beautiful and peaceful at dusk, if attempting in the evening - a flashlight or headlamp will aid your safety.

This is a good opportunity to identify native plants - Mountain laurel, Mexican Buckeye and Daleas live here. Opuntias, pencil cholla and Spanish Bayonet abound. See what you can find!

Excellent CITO locations - bring a bag and shake your head at stupidity.

+ This location is RV FRIENDLY!
