Geocache Description:

"Werewolves of London" (1978 song)

  • Artist: Warren Zevon, co-written with LeRoy Marinell and Waddy Wachtel.
  • Album: It was featured on Zevon's third studio album, Excitable Boy.
  • Success: The song was Zevon's only Top 40 hit in the U.S., peaking at No. 21 on the Billboard Hot 100 in May 1978.
  • Inspiration: The idea for the song came from Phil Everly of The Everly Brothers, who suggested it after watching the 1935 film Werewolf of London.
  • Personnel: The track features Mick Fleetwood on drums and John McVie on bass, both from Fleetwood Mac.
  • Lyrics: The satirical lyrics describe a stylish, well-dressed werewolf seeking beef chow mein at the now-closed London restaurant Lee Ho Fook's. The lyrics also include a famous howl, "Ah-ooooo, werewolves of London".
