Geocache Description:

When visiting the Queen City you will be greeted by a familiar park by the name of a famous author known to have spent his summers here. Take a walk with us along the Riverfront and enjoy views of our most cherished asset, the Chemung River.

Many start at Main and Water, and so shall we. Bask in the gravel that encircles one of the many public art installations allong our walk, this piece may evoke a love of reading, a love of birds, and a love of history. You may hear a song sparrow, crow, or even spot an osprey along your walk! Also notice the large granite maker with some familiar fishy friends swimming across it. Head towards the retaining wall and peak over at the shimmering water below. Turn left and follow the path, meander if you like! You will pass many a bench to stop and ponder, and hear many a buzzing bees and fluttering butterflies that love the pollinator gardens that sprawl acorss the park. When you get to the bridge pause and Read, Listen & Write underneath, maybe even pick up a book at the Little Free Library if you are lucky!

Here we will turn back for now and stay to the right, along the roadside path you will come across a bench. You have travelded far so take a moment here to rest and recover. What do you see? A tree, or two, or three? Is that one tree or three, they are awefully close together. Look up and you will find the treasure you seek! We have many more treasures to find, let the magic of the Chemung River sweep you away as you search for the rest!

Friends of the Chemung River Watershed is the community's connection for everything related to the beautiful Chemung River, its tributaries, and the trails and grounds surrounding the river. The 46.4-mile-long Chemung River is at the center of our efforts to promote regional recreation for guided paddles, fishing, riverside hikes, cross-country skiing, biking, bird watching, nature photography, and other events and programs. We also believe that a clean watershed is what makes for great outdoor recreation, drawing both locals and tourists to the area, and protecting the ecosystem is critical as we advocate for increased responsible usage of our watershed. We work to educate the public on safe and fun recreation around the river, improving the quality of life in the Southern Tier, and helping the community to embrace their role in protecting our precious natural resources. Thank you for joining us on this riverside journey, and happy geocaching!
