International Talk Like a Pirate Day was created in 1995 as a humorous way for adults and children alike to express themselves using sailor and pirate-like lingo.  The creators of Talk Like a Pirate Day encouraged the world to speak in a West Country accent (the accent stereotypically synonymous with pirates).

Talk Like a Pirate Day takes place on September 19th.

The beauty of Talk Like a Pirate Day 2025 is that the manner in which anyone chooses to celebrate it is entirely up to them and their sense of adventure. The most popular way to celebrate the day is to talk like a pirate; incorporating, "Arrr!", "Ahoy!", and "Shiver me timbers!" into your everyday conversations.
