At above 14,000 feet, or 2.65 miles, or 4.26km we would love to meet other geocachers who happen to be in the area and want to enjoy a fun event (and another icon) at Pike's Peak Summit.
Who are we??
We are a geocaching couple from Kansas (where there are absolutely no mountains) enjoying Colorado. We are working on a Challenge cache (GC9E8KA) at home which requires finding a cache at multiple elevation ranges. We signed a cache on Mt. Blue Sky that fits into one of the elevation ranges. It is a Challenge that requires 5 different icons above 14,000 feet (GC9CQPM). This Event will qualify us for that Challenge. Then we just need one more cache for the Challenge from home. We hope to either get that on the way to the summit or on the way back down.
Please come and say hello, swap stories of your favorite finds, discover trackables, and enjoy some of the other caches at the summit.
We've rated this cache as a 3.5 terrain because:
- Cost of entry
- Scary drive to the top
- Oxygen deprivation is a real thing
- Windy - makes Chicago seem like a light breeze!
- Chance of lightning strike
Current General Admission Fees for visiting Pikes Peak is: $18 for adults and $8 for children (6-15 years old) See https://coloradosprings.gov/pikes-peak-americas-mountain/page/pikes-peak-hours-and-rates
If driving a vehicle to the top, you will also need to reserve a time window for entry which costs $2.00 per vehicle. See https://coloradosprings.gov/pikes-peak-americas-mountain/page/tickets-and-reservations
This website also has the phone number to call for current highway conditions.
Here is a good website for weather on Pike's Peak: https://www.mountain-forecast.com/peaks/Pikes-Peak/forecasts/4300.
If the road closes, we will meet at the alternate parking coords instead. I will post an announcement if this happens and the alternate coords will become the posted coords.
