Geocache Description:

Registar a EC:

Stylolites are irregular, serrated surfaces found within rock formations, particularly in sedimentary rocks like limestones and sandstones. They form through a process called pressure dissolution, where mineral material is removed from the rock due to concentrated pressure and the presence of fluids, leading to a reduction in the rock's overall volume.

Registering the EC:
On the northern side of the compass, outside the ring with diamonds, there are two marble rings with a central disc surrounded by 8 segments. Face the monument, the ring you want is on your right hand side.
See the image below and answer the following questions -

1- In which segment are the stylolites the longest? (A, B, C or D?)
2- In which segment is the amplitude of the stylolites the largest? (A, B, C or D?)
3- Are the orientations of the stylolites the same in segments B, C and D?

The most exciting way to learn about the Earth and its processes is to get into the outdoors and experience it first-hand. Visiting an Earthcache is a great outdoor activity the whole family can enjoy. An Earthcache is a special place that people can visit to learn about a unique geoscience feature or aspect of our Earth. Earthcaches include a set of educational notes and the details about where to find the location (latitude and longitude). Visitors to Earthcaches can see how our planet has been shaped by geological processes, how we manage the resources and how scientists gather evidence to learn about the Earth.
