Pirmoji žinoma sinagoga Memelyje ir prie jos veikusi ritualinė pirtis (baseinas) Mikva (Mikvah) buvo pastatyta 1835 m. dabartinių Sinagogų ir Galinio pylimo gatvių sankirtoje Lenkijos žydų pirklių Mordechai Wasbutzki ir Meir Lifschitz) lėšomis ir buvo skirta iš carinės Rusijos atvykusiems žydų pirkliams. Tai buvo kvadrato plano pastatas su įėjimu iš Sinagogų g. pusės. Pirmoji lenkų sinagoga sudegė XIX a. pab. 1874 m. toje pačioje gatvėje iškilo nauja sinagoga, miestiečių vadinta Polen Schul („lenkų sinagoga“). Ši sinagoga išliko iki 1939 m. kovo mėn. Čia rinkdavosi chasidai, religinio mistinio mokymo, XVIII amžiuje apėmusio Volynės, Galicijos, dalies Lenkijos, Vengrijos, Rumunijos žydus, šalininkai. Amžininkų teigimu, joje buvo meldžiamasi „rytų stiliumi“. Keturiasdešimt metų šiai bendruomenei vadovavo rabinas S. Blochas (S. Bloch).
Šalia sinagogos šiame sklype 1858-1939 m. veikė žydų bendruomenės taryba. Oficialiai Memelio žydų bendruomenė įkurta 1862 m., taryba suformuota iš 16 Prūsijos pilietybę turinčių narių.
The first known synagogue in Memel and the ritual bathhouse (swimming pool) Mikvah that operated next to it were built in 1835 at the intersection of the current Sinagogų and Galinio pylimo streets at the expense of Polish Jewish merchants Mordechai Wasbutzki and Meir Lifschitz) and was intended for Jewish merchants who arrived from Tsarist Russia. It was a square-plan building with an entrance from Sinagogų g. side. The first Polish synagogue burned down at the end of the 19th century. In 1874, a new synagogue was built on the same street, called Polen Schul ("Polish synagogue") by the townspeople. This synagogue survived until March 1939. Hasidim, adherents of the religious mystical teaching that swept the Jews of Volhynia, Galicia, part of Poland, Hungary, and Romania in the 18th century, gathered here. According to contemporaries, prayers were held there in the "eastern style". For forty years, this community was led by Rabbi S. Bloch.
The Jewish community council operated on this plot next to the synagogue from 1858 to 1939. The Memel Jewish community was officially founded in 1862, and the council was formed from 16 members with Prussian citizenship.
