Church Micro 15537...Rhostryfan

welcome to capel Horeb a little bit of info for you before you go ahead.

 

  • Original building: The Calvinistic Methodist chapel was originally built in 1821, with subsequent rebuilds and enlargements in 1837, 1855, and 1866.
  • Demolition and move: By 1997, the main chapel structure was demolished. Services were moved to the vestry, where the congregation remains active today.
  • Community history: Rhostryfan itself is known for its strong chapel tradition. At one point, the village was home to four chapels, reflecting the area's nonconformist heritage. The village was historically a slate quarrying community in the 19th century. 

Current status

  • Congregation: The chapel is a Welsh-speaking church that is part of the Bro Lleu Pastorate and is affiliated with the 

    Presbyterian Church of Wales

    .
  • Location: While the original building is gone, the chapel's location is well-documented in archival records held by the National Library of Wales. Its former site is located at the grid reference SH4963057850.
  • Records: Records for the Horeb Chapel in Rhostryfan, including information on the Calvinistic Methodist Archive, are available through the National Library of Wales.
