Geocache Description:

This area hosted some of the first Scottish settler in Scugog Township. Scugog Township is on the Treaty and traditional territory of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation. The settlement is now called Utica (Latin for “old”). Scottish pioneering families started in this area and still rest here today. Today the historic foundation and many contributions from the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation in this area recognized.

Breadalbane derives from Gaelic, meaning the 'high country of Scotland'. The small ‘kirk’ (church) was built in 1849 by the Scottish settlers and has been closed since 1939.

Thank you to all the generations of people who have taken care of this land for millennia starting with the First Nations, Metis, and Inuit peoples of Canada.

The cache is a camouflaged container, and an easy find. Happy caching!
