Marken
Marken has been known as an urban area since the 16th century. Parts of the area were previously under the Lungegården property, but were originally farmland for Nonneseter Monastery. Nonneseter Chapel from 1250 southwest of the area is the only thing left of the monastery. The main streets in the area are Kong Oscarsgate, Marken, Kaigaten and Strømgaten. In Marken there are apartment buildings, cobblestone alleys and wooden houses.
Here is also the Seminarium Fredericianum (Bergen children's asylum) from 1752, the Leprosy Museum with St. Jørgen Hospital from 1411 and Sankt Jørgen Church from 1706, Danckert Krohn's foundation from 1789 and Zander Kaae's foundation from 1770, both in late Baroque style, Sankt Jacob's Cemetery from 1629, Stadsporten (city gate from 1628), Bergen Handelsgymnasium, Domkirkehjemmet, old Betanien Hospital, Bergen Academy of the Arts, Bergen Railway Station, Bergen Public Library, Nonneseter Chapel from 1250 and the statue of the city's founder Olav Kyrre. The local archery corps in the area is called Markens Bataljon.
