Geocache Description:

Wedding cakes have evolved significantly over the years, initially cakes were more about ritual than taste. ย In Ancient Rome a wheat or barley loaf cake was used and was broken over the bride's head for luck and fertility. ย The happy couple and guests would then pick up the crumbs for good luck. ย By the medivial period, English weddings featured stacks of spiced buns or scones. ย The tradition of the couple kissing over a stack of buns, with the hope of good lucky and fortune if the stack didn't fall started.
ย

"Bride pies" were common, transitioning to "bride cakes" and over time the wedding cake/s have become sweeter, fruited and spiced. ย The groom's cake also appeared as a smaller, richer, often alcohol-soaked fruitcake. ย Wedding cakes continued toย evolved into the elaborate tired cakes which are often commonly seen today. ย Often with a sweet fruitcake being used at the bottom as it is denser and can hold the weight of other layers of cakes without collapsing. ย

The cutting of the cake ๏ง ย remains a symbolic act, representing the couple's first joint activity as a married couple.

A pen is essential to sign the log paper and tweezers could be handy,
The co-ordinates and GO take you to a pull in. ย During the summer months watch out for the nettles and possible brambles. ย
