Geocache Description:

Maurice Hilleman (1919-2005) was a microbiologist who specialized in vaccines.  He developed over 40 vaccines.  Some estimates have said that his vaccines save nearly 8 million lives each year.  He developed vaccines for Polio, Mumps, and Hepatitis B, among others.  Maurice Ralph Hilleman was born on August 30, 1919 in Miles City, Montana.  A mural has been installed on the east side of the Miles City Public Library of Maurice and this park is named after him.

If you would like to learn more about Maurice Hilleman, please check out the 2016 documentary entitled “Hilleman: A Perilous Quest to Save the World’s Children.”  The book “Vaccinated: One Man’s Quest to Defeat the World’s Deadliest Diseases” is also about Maurice Hilleman.
