The history as we understand it:
There were unusually cold weather conditions in the summer of 1816. This led those who were superstitious (of whom there were many) to believe that some of the women who lived in the area who behaved oddly ( in their opinion) were witches, and they were responsible for the bad weather. The surname of some of these women was Kimble and the Kimbles lived in this area. Some of the women under suspicion of being witches would have been Black.
