Dizem os antigos — e também aquele tio que sabe sempre de tudo — que no alto do Miradouro Pico Longo, em Povoação, havia uma cache lendária. Pequena, discreta, mas com um logbook onde nomes ilustres como "GeoPirata69" e "TiaMafalda_Explora" deixaram suas assinaturas imortais.
Muitos tentaram. Gente de chinelo, botas de caminhada, e até aquele corajoso de Crocs com meias, vasculharam tufos de erva, buracos em pedras e até debaixo do banco do miradouro. Mas nada.
Conta-se que a cache sumiu misteriosamente numa noite de nevoeiro cerrado, levada por um pombo muito dedicado ou talvez abduzida por extraterrestres fãs de geocaching. Desde então, tornou-se uma lenda local. Diz-se que quem encontrar a cache terá direito a um cumprimento solene de uma vaca micaelense.
Se fores lá, cuidado. O miradouro é lindo, a vista parece de cartão-postal, mas o verdadeiro tesouro… esse continua escondido. Ou perdido. Ou talvez nunca tenha existido — e só inventaram isso para os forasteiros ficarem horas a remexer no mato.

The old folks say — and also that uncle who always knows everything — that at the top of the Pico Longo Lookout, in Povoação, there was a legendary cache. Small, discreet, but with a logbook where illustrious names like "GeoPirata69" and "TiaMafalda_Explora" left their immortal signatures.
Many have tried. People in flip-flops, hiking boots, and even that brave guy in Crocs with socks, searched through tufts of grass, holes in rocks and even under the lookout bench. But nothing.
It is said that the cache mysteriously disappeared on a night of thick fog, taken by a very dedicated pigeon or perhaps abducted by aliens who are fans of geocaching. Since then, it has become a local legend. They say that whoever finds the cache will be entitled to a solemn greeting from a cow from São Miguel.
If you go there, be careful. The viewpoint is beautiful, the view is like a postcard, but the real treasure… that remains hidden. Or lost. Or maybe it never existed — and they just made it up so that outsiders could spend hours rummaging through the woods.
