A basic pre-requisite for any pedestrian bridge in Guangzhou should be that it provides shade. The bridge here certainly has excellent facilities. It has ramps in both directions as well as for bikes. Most importantly it's covered, which is unfortunately still somewhat of a rarity in Guangzhou. Though the ramps down to street level are not covered, the nearby trees provide some shade. It even includes functioning lifts on both sides.
Unfortunately the bridge also appears to be completely pointless, as there is a pedestrian crossing just below it and based on multiple unscientific observations the number of people using the bridge is approximately zero. Despite the delays waiting for the signal at ground level, and despite the well-functioning lift, and even with the sun beating down in summer, people just prefer to cross the street at ground level. Hence the bridge, despite some attractive design elements, earns an entry into the white elephant series.
The opportunity to connect the bridge to the development in the north was missed, but said development also completely cuts itself off from the attractive blueway via a fence so perhaps that is not surprising.
