The whole area around this cache was cleared around 2005 and subsequently built out during 2006-2010. Those early developments tended to feature unimaginative, gated, car-oriented, single-use functional buildings poorly suited to the cutting edge high-technology nature of many of the industries. Redevelopment is coming; mostly in the form of infill on surface parking lots and other vacant spaces, but also increasingly frequently in Huangpu in the form of demolition of those 20 year-old buildings in favour of more cutting edge, modern designs with much more attention to attractive design details, public spaces, basketball courts, mixed-use and sporting facilities for staff, and other measures including in many cases making them open for anyone to enter and wander around. The development this cache faces is one of the older variety, fully and anachronistically gating itself off from the attractive waterway pathway alongside it and possibly counting down the days to its replacement, with little attention - other than by geocachers - paid to the crumbling perimeter fence.
