Geocache Description:

Since the beginning of time, or 1991 if you want to get technical about it, the Urban Ecology Center has been bringing kids and adults in Milwaukee closer to nature in their neighborhood. Students, neighbors and visitors learn about the environment around them, host community events, pick up trash, remove invasive species, and otherwise care for both the natural world of Milwaukee and the people who inhabit it. I stopped by to do research for this cache and randomly ended up in a book club meeting; the next time I showed up, there was a yoga class. The time after that, I donated blood. Things happen here. And as of whatever date it says on the cache listing, after several layers of getting permission, one of those things is now a geocache!

Instructions:

Explore the Center, locate the answers to the six questions below, and use them to solve the equation. When you’re done with the math, look for the cache near the fireplace; when you find it, use the code you’ve calculated. Please replace as found.

Important Notes:

  • Two of the answers are located at the waypoints; the others are in common spaces inside the UEC.
  • Please be respectful of your neighbors during your search.
  • This cache is only available during the UEC’s business hours, which are as follows:
    • Tuesday - Thursday: Noon to 6 PM
    • Friday: Noon to 5 PM
    • Saturday: 9 AM - 3 PM
    • Sunday and Monday: Closed
  • UEC also hosts events such as family reunions and weddings, but please do not try to find this cache during those - again, ONLY during public open hours.

Questions:

A. How long does a Common Snapping Turtle like Paul typically live in the wild? [Note: Paul's room is currently unavailable due to renovations. The answer is 40 years.]

C. I am between 5'8" and 5'10" in height. What is the size of the ski poles that I should use, in centimeters?

D. If the elevator were used 50 times every day for one year, how much would it cost the UEC during that time?

E. Find the Geologic Time Scale at Waypoint #1. In the right-hand column, what is the number next to the boundary between the blue and red bars?

F. At Waypoint #2, what is the number after James Barry's name?
