This church is reputedly the only church, outside London, that was designed by Sir Christopher Wren. It is usually open between 10 and 3 and is well worth a look inside - it is not like the usual, rural, parish church! The foundations were laid in 1673 and the building was finished in 1677 with consecration in August 1678. In 1886 it became only the second church in the country (first outside London) to have electric lighting. After death watch beetle was discovered in the roof in 2000, the church was closed for 4 years renovation.
