A triangulation pillar at High Trewhitt, a little north of Thropton. This is roadside and interestingly the pillar has become an integral part of the field fence line and gateways. The fence has been cunningly constructed to not obscure the pillar and flush bracket. It’s in very good condition and sits proudly at the relatively lowly height of 164 metres. Despite its lack of altitude it has expansive views toward the Cheviot foothills to the north and northwest, and Simonside to the south.
If you park on the opposite side of the road in a gateway you will notice a benchmark carved on the old stone gate-post.
The pillar itself was constructed in 1945 at cost of £4.17s.0d. It’s large concrete base is on full view.

Ye Ole Survey Monument (YOSM) is a captivating series of caches that pays homage to the remarkable legacy of OutForTheHunt's YSM series (GC45CC).
YOSM caches are strategically positioned at or near Trig Points. These triangulation stations have played a pivotal role as surveying landmarks, contributing to the mapping of expansive territories.
Some of these points, bearing historical significance, might now be situated on private land or have vanished with time. As a result, the caches are artfully placed in close proximity, reverently acknowledging the historical importance of these survey monuments.
