The cache is within Seward Square, named after William Henry Seward, the United States Secretary of State under Presidents Abraham Lincoln and Andrew Johnson. Seward is noted for his part in the American purchase of Alaska from the Russian Empire in 1867 -- called Seward's Folly.
Also of note, on the night of April 14, 1865, while Abraham Lincoln was being assassinated at Ford's Theatre, Secretary of State William Seward was also targeted in a separate assassination attempt as part of the same conspiracy. Lewis Powell, one of the conspirators, attacked Seward at his home, stabbing him multiple times. While Seward was seriously injured, he survived the attack.
But much more relaxed, in this park bearing Seward's name, there is an historic structure in which a geocache is conveniently lodged.
