This cache is intended to augment the set of caches available for the Vermont 251 Plus 4 Geocaching Club Challenge which is an attempt to place caches in each and every town, city, and gore in the state of Vermont!
The cache is not at the posted coordinataes. You could say, "Hi," to the Waltham Town Clerk if you were there (and the clerk were there too).
As far as we can tell, there has never been a TIV for Waltham, so we decided to add one to the set of venerable other TIV caches created many years ago. Please consider finding those as well as the other caches in Waltham. The walk to the top of Buck Mountain is worth it for the great view to the west over Lake Champlain. The trailhead for that walk (not this cache) is near the Corner of Rt. 66 & Lake Vermont Trail.

Waltham describes itself as a quaint town nestled between the Otter Creek, the city of Vergennes, and the town of New Haven in Addison County, Vermont. You may notice that there are no signs (other than the VTRANS town boundary signs) indicating Waltham's borders. One of the town elders was asked why in 2022, and the reply was, “The people who live in Waltham know where it is. For the rest, it is not necessary."
