The F. H. Montgomery Sanctuary is maintained by the Kitchener-Waterloo field naturalists. It is a mature Carolinian forest and the Nith River flows along the edge. The spring flowers, sounds of the river, wild birds make it a favourite place to walk. Warning, the mosquitoes love it too especially in the spring and early summer.
The area can become flooded, so it can be muddy or unsafe at times. We often see deer in here and ducks or geese taking off from the river.
The floods of 2025 has damaged a lot of trees in this tract and the trails have not been fully restored as of yet.
