Welcome to Carroll's Hill, where your hard work is rewarded with a view of Monadnock. You're looking for a large green bison tube a little ways off the trail. A Garmin eTrex was used to capture the coordinates, but accuracy can be affected by surroundings and signal strength. If your GPS provides a better set of coordinates, feel free to include them in your log to help improve the search for others.
- Carroll’s Hill
- About: A 2-mile hike (out and back) leading to beautiful rock ledges and a scenic overlook. Trail starts at the edge of a field, slips into the woods and passes a couple houses before winding around a cattle gate at 0.2 miles and starting uphill on the old Calvin Curtiss Road. At 0.6 mile, the trail turns left and becomes a steeper footpath through mixed hemlock and hardwood groves and past small streams. At almost a mile, turn left at the sign (if you go straight, the trail peters out) to encounter big ledges and ancient trees, and a lovely overlook with a bench.
- Difficulty: Moderate, with a short steep section.
- Guidelines: 61-acre conservation easement held by Monadnock Conservancy.
- Parking: On Westbrook Court at edge of open field on right (0.4 miles from Rte. 32). Trailhead is at the edge of the field and woods less than 100 yards from the parking.
