All Saints' Church: A Glimpse into South Oxhey's Rich History
Welcome to the geocache at All Saints' Church, the Church of England parish church serving the communities of South Oxhey and Carpenders Park. While the current building is relatively new, the ground it stands on has been a place of worship for over 1200 years!
This site's ancient roots trace back to a medieval monastery, even boasting a charter issued by King Ethelred in 1007. Later, it became part of the Oxhey Hall Estate. Keep an eye out for Oxhey Chapel, built in 1612 by Sir James Altham on what's believed to be the remains of that original monastic church. It still stands proudly between our current church and the Vicarage, a testament to centuries of faith.
The modern history of the parish began with the growth of housing estates in Carpenders Park (1930s) and South Oxhey (post-war). The first All Saints' Church was built in 1953 to serve these new communities. In 2000, that original church was replaced by our current, flexible, multi-purpose building, designed to continue the long tradition of worship here while also serving the community.
Most recently, in September 2023, the parish officially changed its name to the "Parish of South Oxhey and Carpenders Park" to truly reflect the area we serve.
