St. Martin's Church, South Oxhey: A Community's Evolving Story

This geocache brings you to the site of St. Martin's Church in South Oxhey, a significant landmark that evolved with the post-war London County Council housing estate.
The first St. Martin's Church was built here on Muirfield Road in the early 1950s, serving as a vital community hub and place of worship for the growing population. It was known for hosting uniformed organizations and youth clubs, playing an integral role in local life.

St Martins Old Church
While a new St. Martin's Church was built on the same site in 2000, the original church was eventually demolished to make way for new housing, now known as St. Martin's Close. This reflects the changing needs of the community over the decades.
It's worth noting that this St. Martin's is distinct from the ancient St. Martin's Church in Canterbury. Here in South Oxhey, the church's story is intertwined with the development of the estate it served.
