Seawind is a geocaching legend who has long split his time between Salt Lake City and coastal Oregon. In preparation for a permanent move to Oregon, he spent the spring months dismantling, archiving and adopting out his Utah caches. He has hidden a total of 446 caches in Utah during his career. Only four remain.
Seawind's geocaching legacy includes another 468 caches in Oregon. (More are no doubt on the way, hidden in containers repurposed from his Utah hides.) He is known for fantastic puzzles, challenging hiking caches, carefully-crafted hides, and an almost fanatical devotion to cache maintenance.
Let's celebrate his legacy with a Seawind-themed crossword puzzle. All of the clues and answers involve some aspect of his geocaching career, which stretches back more than 20 years.
Don't worry! You don't have to be a Seawind scholar to solve the puzzle. You can find most of the answers by
looking through his profile page. The About, Gallery, Statistics, and especially the Geocaches tabs will be useful.
The Geocaches tab has a pair of links that will show you lists of Seawind's finds and hides. Each list is limited to 1000 caches, but fortunately each list provides a Filter button that will let you trim it down.
You can, for example, limit the results to
- caches in Utah or Oregon,
- caches found or placed by Seawind in a particular year,
- caches with a given word in their names,
- caches of a given type,
- for Seawind's finds, caches with a given owner, and
- for Seawind's hides, caches with a given finder.
Once you have a list narrowed down, you can click on its headings to sort the results in various ways.
Each clue has an image. Many of them are from Seawind's gallery, where you can see the dates they were posted.
Most of the clues have hints you can earn that will help you focus your searches.
Click on the crossword image below to get started. It is easy to use, and there's a Help menu if you have questions. When you have solved the puzzle, a popup will appear offering to take you to Certitude to obtain the coordinates. Of, if you prefer, you can do things the old-fashioned way and use the Certitude link farther down.
