Geocache Description:

Engine #1

This is a quick 2-stage multi cache. Get the missing information from the information panel and use it in the equation below to get the final cache coordinates:

It was far easier for an engine to pull a train than
push one so some method was needed to turn
the engines around at the ends of the line, Most
terminal stations received turntables when the
railroad was built in the 18XXs. Turntables were
operated manually once the engine reached its
balance point at the centre. Once turned, they
backed into an engine house to protect them from
the weather, Turntables were built at Souris (inside
the engine house), Charlottetown (inside the
engine house with stalls for 20 engines), Tignish,
Murray Harbour and Montague. Summerside and
Georgetown used a wye onto a wharf to achieve the
purpose and Alberton used the junction nearby.

All of the turntables except Charlottetown became
obsolete when the railway became converted to standard
gauge in the 1920s. Charlottetown converted the
turntable and stalls to accommodate standard
gauge engines but all others were removed. Tignish
and Murray Harbour substituted wyes. A wye was
built initially in at Elmira in 19YY. A wye was not
provided at Montague and trains were often backed
into the station from Montague junction. The
turntable foundation still exists at Montague and
wyes remain at Murray Harbour and Elmira, the
latter complete with rails.

Add "XX" and "YY" together to get Z (a 2-digit number) and use Z in the following equation:

N 46 10.(Z + 267) W 062 39.(Z + 153)

(Checksum: N=27 W=30)
