Geocache Description:

Harilik kärnkonn on Eesti üks tavalisemaid kahepaikseid. Eestis elab kolme sorti kärnkonnalisi: harilik kärnkonn, juttselg kärnkonn (kõre) ja rohekärnkonn. Kõre elab ainult Eesti läänerannikul ning rohekärnkonn ainult Kagu-Eestis Peipsi ääres. Mõlemad liigid on muutunud väga haruldaseks elupaikade kinnikasvamise ja hävinemise tõttu.

Hariliku kärnkonnaga on seotud mitmeid uskumusi. Siiamaani on üsna tuntud uskumus kärnkonna ärritavast toimest inimese nahale. Soolatüükaid ta aga tegelikult ikkagi ei põhjusta. Harilik kärnkonn on koos kõigi teiste Eesti kahepaiksetega looduskaitse all.
