This sculpture represents the lasting relationship between Whiteman Air Force and the city of Sedalia. It commemorates the past, through 2nd Lt. George Allison Whiteman's P-40B and the present with the iconic B-2 Stealth Bomber. On Dec. 7 1941, the attack on Pearl Harbor took the life of Sedalia native Lt. Whiteman as he heroically attempted to take off in his P-40B to defend out country. As a tribute to Lt. Whiteman, the base was officially named Whiteman Air Force Base on Dec. 3, 1955.
