All good things must come to an end and in this year of all things '25' related it feels like a good time to bring our CITO activities in their current format to a close with our 25th CITO event and the return of everyone's favourite activity - Smoooshing!
Yes, it's time for the annual lard stuffing festival, come stuff lard and seeds onto cones, hang them out and then stuff some cake into your mouth, since 2017 we've stuffed well in excess of 2000 cones here, providing our feathered friends with a tasty treat as winter approaches, who knows I might actually get to FINALLY make one myself this year.
As this event falls bang in the middle of CITO season 2 there will be a digital souvenir up for grabs for those attending and in act of pure serendipity attending this event will also gain you the 'world postcard' day souvenir, 2 for 1, can't be bad.
You will spend 20-30 mins making the feeding balls, followed by heading out onto site to hang up your feeders and finally back to base for cup of tea and several buns, About an hour in total. We will be working outside so remember to check the forecast on the day.
Important information, please read
York Cemetery - And In The End - CITO
Saturday 4th October 2025
13.15 - 14.30
If you are planning to come then please log a 'will attend' note on the cache page, this will ensure you receive any event update announcements that are made and ensure we have enough supplies for everyone.
For site insurance liability purposes the Trust requires a site attendance sheet to be completed with your full name. Please enter this information prior to the event into the following Google form. Without these details then you will not be permitted to work on site, I'm not even kidding, this form will close to new registrations at some point in the week prior to the event.
To cover the cost of materials used at the event, hire of Chapel etc there will be a small donation charge of £3 per adult over the age of 16, payable in cash upon arrival.
On the day, meet at the rear of the chapel for introductions and a H&S briefing. To reduce contact points, there will not be an event logbook to sign for this CITO or a trackable drop off point, so please leave your wacky trackables at home, unless you've arranged to swap them with others directly.
We will provide all the materials, tools and refreshments on the day.
Children are welcome, but must be supervised at all times. No dogs are allowed in the cemetery, apart from registered assistance dogs. Please remember that this is a working cemetery and there will probably be people visiting graves.
Our tasks on the day may change depending on the weather, we will update the listing and make announcements accordingly, please ensure you have logged a 'will attend' to receive these updates. Has anyone bothered to actually read all the way down here? tell me something about you I don't know if you did...
