Choosing to cherish our wild places will ensure that our children and theirs, will never reach a time when all the wild things have gone.
Bisley Valley is one of our development-hungry city’s last truly wild places. It was here in this reserve that we held our first event in 2019, so we felt that after 6 years, it would be great to have another event here. The reserve has gone through some changes in those 6 years, and the paths and tracks are now now well maintained and the bird hide has been repaired. Hopefully it will stay like that.
Poaching is an issue, but the park is patrolled by some gentlemen on motorbikes, and hopefully they have this now under control.
This thorn veld reserve is 250 ha and managed by the Msunduzi Municipality and is an easy area to walk, contains excellent bushveld birds, plus giraffe, Impala and Zebra.
Rare Localised Plants
Aloe Pruinosa hiding in the thickets on the upper slopes, a species found only in Mkhondeni and Mpushini and nowhere else on Earth.
The security gate to the horse stables is ALWAYS closed but not locked and can be pushed open The gate MUST be left closed after entering or leaving the reserve. . Follow the signs to the picnic / parking. Here at parking the hinge gate is always locked but there is a foot access gate.
